Welcome To First Grade!
Dear Parents,
First grade schedule:
PE - Monday and Wednesday
Music - Monday
Library - Tuesday
Art - Every other Thursday
Science - Friday (moved to Thursday if we don't have school on Friday)
In our class, students are assigned homework Monday through Thursday. Each day they are required to complete the assignment on their Homework Calendar. If you would like know what the homework is on a given day, you should ask to see your child’s calendar and be able to see exactly what is required. Students will take their homework home on Monday and return it on Friday.
I am assigning my students work that should take approximately 20 minutes daily. Daily reading is a vital part of your child’s growth towards literacy. Reading to your child is as important as having him/her read independently. Making reading an enjoyable experience is also one way to make students lifelong learners.
Every month we have a school wide assembly and recognize a "student of the month" from each class. The criteria for each month is as follows:
SEPTEMBER: A student at Saint Lawrence SUCCEEDS as a responsible citizen: By taking ownership of his or her own actions.
OCTOBER: A student at St. Lawrence ACHIEVES as a life-long learner: By using critical and creative thinking
NOVEMBER: A student at St. Lawrence BELIEVES as a child of God: By applying Church teaching in response to social justice issues
DECEMBER: A student at St. Lawrence SUCCEEDS as a responsible citizen: By displaying respect for himself or herself, others and the environment
JANUARY: A student at St. Lawrence ACHIEVES as a life-long learner: By demonstrating effective communication skills
FEBRUARY: A student at St. Lawrence BELIEVES as a child of God: By exemplifying personal spirituality through prayer and participation in the Mass
MARCH: A student at St. Lawrence SUCCEEDS as a responsible citizen: By working and playing cooperatively with others
APRIL: A student at St. Lawrence ACHIEVES as a life-long learner: By applying technology as a learning tool
MAY: A student at St. Lawrence BELIEVES as a child of God: By exhibiting Gospel values
